BBC: Last Chance to See
The Design Brief:
Series Producer Tim Green from BBC Cardiff wanted compelling graphics which would stand up to the legacy of Douglas Adams' book, locate the team, and give our audience a sense of what animals Stephen and Mark were searching for: a great if challenging brief ...
How we did it:
Starting with rough sketches, we developed a mechanical 'globe and animals' concept - tying in themes of exploration, adventure and fragile ecology to the finished design, which was realised in over 12 minutes of full High Definition computer animation.
Did it work?
Yes! The finished graphics found critical acclaim, and the design concept carried through to the book, website and DVD covers.
"The revelation of the animals could not have been better ... Graphix Asset brought a technical and creative flair that lifted the series."
Tim Green, Series Producer.
"I thought I'd scream whenthe manatee emerged. Absolute genius. Way beyond my fondest imaginings."
